Measure your own size
To have your ring custom made, both enlarging and reducing, it is useful to know what the correct ring size is. This can be done in various ways. Below are various methods for measuring your ring size.
Measure ring size of an existing ring
- Grab a ring and ruler or measuring tape.
- Measure the diameter of the inside of the ring ( do not measure the edge).
- The number of millimeters is the ring size.
Measure ring size using a piece of string
- Grab a measuring tape/ruler and some string/ribbon.
- Twist the string or ribbon around the finger (where the ring will go).
- Put two lines at the spots where both sides intersect.
- Measure the part between the two stripes with a measuring tape/ruler.
- Check the table below to see what your ring size is. (Note: the finger must also go over the knuckle, the ring may be slightly larger.
Ring size meter using a measuring tape
- Grab a measuring tape.
- Twist the measuring tape around your finger.
- Look where the measuring tape crosses itself and read the number of centimeters.
- Check the table below to see what your ring size is. (Note: the finger must also go over the knuckle, the ring may be slightly larger.

Costs Have a ring made to measure
When having a ring made to measure, both enlarged and reduced, it is difficult to give a price indication in advance. This has to do with the material used, the size and whether it contains diamonds. However, we can indicate what the minimum price is:
- Reduce silver from €20
- Increase silver from €40
- Reduce gold from €45
- Increase gold from €85
If you would like to receive an accurate price indication, we recommend making an appointment without obligation with the goldsmith. He knows, by glancing at the ring, what the prize will be. He is happy to help you have your ring custom made.
Which rings can be custom made?
It is important to know that not all rings can be custom made. This has to do with the material of the ring and whether there are stones in the ring. The following ring materials can be enlarged or reduced:
- Gold
- Silver
- Platinum
- Palladium
How do we enlarge a ring?
You cannot enlarge a ring yourself, you must have this done by a goldsmith. When enlarging a ring, we first saw the ring open. An extra piece of gold, silver, platinum or palladium should be placed in this place. We collect various pieces of gold together and melt them into one gold nugget and roll it to the thickness of the shin. We attach this piece to the opening we made earlier and solder it in place. We then process the piece of gold in such a way that it has the precise thickness and width of the ring. After this, we polish and finish the ring so that it is as new again. And voila: the ring has been enlarged.
How do we reduce a ring?
You cannot reduce the size of a ring yourself, this is a job for the goldsmith. When reducing a ring, the goldsmith first calculates the correct new size. We then connect the two ends of the ring together. We bend the ring so that it has a perfect circle shape again. Then we laser the ends together, we solder this for extra strength and then we sand away the imperfect pieces. We polish the ring so that it looks like new again.
